Job summary
AECOM is seeking an experienced Principal Rail Telecommunications Engineer to lead the design, assurance, delivery, and support of telecommunications systems across major rail infrastructure projects in the UK. You will guide telecoms solutions including FTN/FTNx, fibre optics, IP networking, GSM-R, CCTV, PA, CIS, and related infrastructure.
You will work across multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient delivery, while mentoring junior engineers and engaging with clients
Qualifications
- Degree in Telecommunications, Electronic, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline.
- Significant experience within rail telecommunications engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status desirable.
Responsibilities
- Lead telecoms design and engineering activities across the project lifecycle.
- Provide technical assurance, design review, and engineering governance.
- Support the delivery of telecoms renewals, enhancements, and digital railway programmes.
- Manage technical risks, interfaces, and system integration activities.
- Mentor junior engineers and support professional development.
- Engage with clients, contractors, and key stakeholders.
