Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking a System Safety Design Engineer for London or Birmingham, with travel between sites as required. You will support system safety activities across major rail infrastructure projects and help embed safety requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified engineer or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Knowledge of UK railway standards and safety management processes.
  • Experience in Systems Safety, Safety Assurance, or RAMS engineering.
  • Proficient in hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety assurance.
  • Experience contributing to Safety Cases and safety documentation.
  • Knowledge of FTA, FMEA and PHA methodologies.
  • Experience in rail, transportation, or regulated engineering environments.
  • Strong technical writing and stakeholder communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support system safety activities across major rail infrastructure projects.
  • Undertake hazard identification and risk assessment activities.
  • Develop and maintain Hazard Records and safety documentation.
  • Support Safety Cases and Safety Justifications delivery.
  • Carry out safety assessments including FTA, FMEA, and PHA.
  • Collaborate with design, systems, engineering, and assurance teams.
  • Ensure safety requirements are embedded throughout project lifecycle.
  • Support compliance with railway safety standards and project safety plans.
  • Participate in safety reviews, audits, and assurance activities.
  • Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Produce technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
