Job summary

Alecto Recruitment is working with a leading rail and civil engineering plant specialist to hire a Rail Plant Fitter for their Doncaster workshop. You’ll service and repair plant at the workshop and on-site across rail and civils sites.

The role offers £18.61 per hour, 39 hours per week with overtime at 1.5x (2x Sundays), a company van and fuel card, and genuine training opportunities including Plasser tamping machines. This is a hands-on role with long-term career potential.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline.
• Strong knowledge of pneumatics, electronics, hydraulics and mechanical systems.
• Experience maintaining 360 excavators and trailers.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical failures, not just patch and hope.
• Attention to detail and pride in doing the job right.
• Experience prioritising workload and using tools, time and people.
• Safe working practices in safety-critical environments.
• Strong communication and problem-solving mindset.
• Willingness to travel to sites as required.

Responsibilities

• Daily maintenance: oiling, greasing, and minor repairs.
• Fault finding across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Loading, unloading and assisting with transport arrangements for plant.
• Pre-site visits to assess loading/unloading locations.
• Occasional on-call cover and emergency relief support.
• Operating plant as required, once trained.
• Keeping your van, tools and equipment in good condition.
• Maintaining paperwork and records for the job.
