Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong NEC contract experience for rail infrastructure, reactive maintenance, and civil engineering projects in the North West/Central rail framework. The role is based in Chesterfield with initial office-based work five days a week, evolving to a flexible hybrid pattern.

You will manage commercial aspects of reactive maintenance across multiple schemes, ensuring cost control, contract administration and robust financial performance.

Qualifications

• Experience as Senior Quantity Surveyor or senior QS.
• Rail sector experience, particularly on Network Rail frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of NEC contracts, especially NEC3.
• Experience managing commercial aspects of civil engineering, infrastructure, maintenance or construction projects.
• Strong contract administration, cost management, valuations, compensation events and final accounts.
• Experience managing multiple projects or work packages simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of commercial responsibilities.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of reactive maintenance and civil engineering works across the North West Central rail framework.
• Manage the commercial lifecycle from initial pricing and procurement to final accounts and closeout.
• Administer NEC contracts and ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
• Prepare and manage valuations, applications for payment, variations and final accounts.
• Identify and manage compensation events with proper contractual notices and records.
• Monitor project costs, budgets, forecasts and commercial performance across multiple schemes.
• Provide accurate cost reports, cash flow forecasts and updates for senior management.
• Manage subcontractor procurement, tender assessments, appointments and commercial administration.
• Assess subcontractor applications, variations and final accounts for cost control.
• Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities across the framework.
• Collaborate with operations to deliver works per contractual, financial and programme requirements.
• Support commercial negotiations with clients and subcontractors.
• Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation.
• Contribute to improving commercial processes and financial performance.
