Job summary

DB Cargo UK Limited is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join the Wagons team at Stoke depot. The role involves hands-on maintenance, repair and overhaul of rail freight wagons in a busy engineering workshop.

You will gain competency through practical training, with full PPE provided and a supportive team environment. Starting salary is £25,914 per year, rising to £28,842 once competency is achieved, with a 36-hour week and overtime opportunities.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical mindset and willingness to learn.
• Experience with hand/air tools is beneficial.
• Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, repair and overhaul on freight wagons.
• Assist with fault finding and mechanical repairs.
• Complete planned maintenance and inspections.
• Work underneath wagons and bogies for inspections and repairs.
• Replace mechanical components using hand/air tools.
• Support brake testing, grinding and fabrication where required.
• Complete maintenance records and work documentation accurately.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and safety in the workshop.
