Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Rail & Major Programmes Architecture Director to lead fronting major rail design programmes across the UK & Ireland. The role provides senior leadership on flagship projects and multi‑partner delivery within live operational stations.

The candidate will have a recognised rail architecture profile, deep technical competence, and the gravitas to represent AECOM at executive client and stakeholder levels, with contacts to Network Rail, TfL and other authorities to grow our rail

Qualifications

  • Qualified Architect (ARB / RIBA) or equivalent.
  • Leadership as a rail architecture expert with a portfolio of major rail developments.
  • Experience delivering large-scale projects (£200m+) with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven project leadership experience in high-pressure, complex environments.
  • Credibility to act as Design Lead or Project Director on flagship rail programmes.
  • Demonstrated success in bids, client leadership, and market-facing roles.
  • Strong understanding of rail Architecture, and complex rail environments.
  • Proficiency with BIM-based workflows; familiarity with computational/digital tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead major rail programmes across UK & Ireland.
  • Provide senior leadership on flagship rail projects and bids.
  • Ensure compliance with rail regulations and safety standards.
  • Manage risk, governance, and quality processes.
  • Mentor teams across architecture, rail systems, civils, MEP, and digital.
  • Shape and lead multi-disciplinary design teams for high-profile projects.
