Job summary

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Trainee Assistant Practitioner in Radiology based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. You will work under the supervision of a qualified radiographer to perform radiographic procedures within the AP scope of practice, supporting the imaging service across Trust sites.

Responsibilities

• Undertake radiographic examinations within the Assistant Practitioner (AP) Scope of Practice in General Radiography, under qualified radiographer supervision.
• Maintain a safe working environment and use X-ray and image acquisition equipment correctly, both within and outside the department.
• Comply with Ionising Radiation Regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
• Explain procedures clearly and maintain patient dignity, privacy, safety and high standards of care.
• Assess patients' clinical needs and ability to cooperate to obtain diagnostic-quality images first time and minimise unnecessary radiation exposure.
• Assist radiographers, radiologists and sonographers during clinical sessions.
• Support patient moving, handling, transfers, escorting, dressing and undressing, and safe storage of personal belongings.
• Support patients' needs during examinations, including those relating to illness or trauma.
• Ensure imaging requests are justified and authorised in line with departmental protocols, escalating concerns to a senior radiographer or consultant radiologist.
• Perform an initial assessment of acquired images and promptly elevate urgent or concerning findings for appropriate clinical or radiological review before the patient leaves.
• Liaise with wards and departments to maintain an efficient imaging service and prioritise work according to clinical urgency.
