Job summary

Isle of Wight NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated Booking Officer to provide comprehensive booking and clerical support to the Diagnostic Imaging Department. You will manage appointments, waiting lists, and enquiries, liaising with consultants and hospital staff to ensure smooth patient pathways.

The role requires excellent communication, IT skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a busy NHS environment, with a friendly, professional manner and a patient-centred approach.

Qualifications

  • Must be literate and numerate to GCSE level
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent
  • IT literate
  • Experience of Hospital administrative systems including PAS, PACS, Radiology CRIS system
  • Advanced keyboard skills
  • Knowledge of general office procedures
  • Reliable with a flexible attitude to the work place/working times
  • Ability to prioritise workload and cope under pressure
  • Able to stay calm under difficult circumstances
  • Ability to work on own initiative within an everchanging environment
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions.

Responsibilities

  • Book, amend, and confirm diagnostic appointments using NHS systems
  • Maintain accurate waiting lists, ensuring timely escalation of patients approaching breach dates
  • Liaise with Speciality Team Leaders to ensure capacity is used effectively
  • Process patient cancellations, removals, and pathway updates in accordance with elective access policies
  • Support the validation of waiting lists, checking data accuracy and ensuring correct patient tracking lists (PTLs)
  • Provide a friendly, professional, and empathetic service to patients and visitors
  • Handle inbound and outbound calls, emails, and face-to-face enquiries in a calm and courteous manner
  • Communicate appointment details clearly, ensuring patients understand times, locations, and requirements.

Come and join our amazing Isle of Wight Diagnostic Imaging Team. We are recruiting for an enthusiastic Booking Officerwho wishes to join #TeamIOWNHS. You should share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients and staff receive quality and compassionate care. The new CDC centre has the ability to deliver joined up diagnostic care, and with increased capacity this will ensure our patients will have faster access to treatment, earlier diagnosis, and improved outcomes. By becoming part of our team, you will have the opportunity to work in innovative ways and play a central role in how we improve patient pathways, delivering the right test, at the right time, in the right place. We are looking for a highly motivated individuals to provide comprehensive Booking and clerical support to the Diagnostic Imaging Department using a high level of initiative and discretion. Excellent communication skills are vital as the post-holders will be required to liaise directly with patients, consultants and other hospital/external colleagues face-to-face, on the telephone and in writing.

You will be required to enter request forms onto the CRIS system and cover the reception desk, booking in patients and dealing with enquiries and opening and distributing the post for the department. The ability to work under pressure, pay attention to detail and have excellent organisational skills are also necessary to manage the pressures of a very busy role.,
