Job summary

AWE is seeking a Waste Officer to join our environmental and operational compliance team. You will act as the local waste specialist at your facility, driving reduction of legacy wastes and ensuring safe management of new waste arisings in line with regulatory requirements.

You will work across radioactive, controlled, or aqueous waste streams, providing expert advice, coordinating activities, and applying radioactive waste management expertise to support AWE's environmental and sustainability

Qualifications

Degree in science-related discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
Understanding of radioactivity and radioactive waste management.
Knowledge of waste management legislation and environmental compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

Act as local waste specialist at the facility or project placement.
Drive reduction of legacy and problematic wastes; ensure new waste arisings are managed safely and in line with regulatory requirements.
Coordinate waste activities across radioactive, controlled or aqueous waste streams.
Provide expert advice and use/develop expertise in radioactive waste management to support environmental objectives.
