Job summary

Straight-Line Group Services Ltd in Southampton is seeking an experienced Active Waste Chemist / Radioactive Waste Team Lead to own radioactive waste operations in a regulated environment. You will manage clean-up, compliance, and coordination with customers, operations teams and regulators.

The role combines technical leadership with hands-on responsibility for waste acceptance, treatment planning, incineration scheduling and records, with a focus on safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Qualified Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) with current or near-term qualification
• Experience in radioactive waste management or nuclear operations
• Strong knowledge of UK radioactive waste legislation and environmental compliance
• Experience supervising teams and coordinating with regulatory bodies

Responsibilities

• Manage customer enquiries relating to radioactive waste treatment and disposal.
• Provide technical advice and assess waste acceptance for radioactive and hazardous materials.
• Ensure waste acceptance compliance with radiological permits and site criteria.
• Coordinate transport arrangements and prepare associated documentation.
• Oversee storage and inventory management of radioactive waste.
• Plan and schedule waste processing through site incineration facilities.
• Produce burn plans and provide guidance to operational teams.
• Ensure disposal of radioactive residues and regulatory compliance.
• Complete radiological clearance for returned containers.
• Maintain accurate operational and regulatory records.
• Lead and support teams with a strong focus on safety and compliance.
