Job summary

Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS F1 Team in Brackley, UK invites current university students to join an industrial placement with the Race Strategy or Race Engineering Team. You will support race and test events, analyze data, and contribute to development of automation tools used by the race team.

The program runs from end of June 2027 to end of July 2028. You will work in a fast-paced, state-of-the-art factory environment and be part of a cohort across all functions of the team.

Qualifications

  • Be currently studying a BSc / Beng or a combined undergraduate masters in MSc / Meng in Engineering / Maths / Physics / Computer Science.
  • Have a strong background in an engineering discipline with excellent skills in Mathematics and Physics.
  • Have at least one year remaining on your current course or be enrolled on your next course from the start of placement.
  • Ability to apply reflective thinking and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Willingness to support F1 race weekend work and adapt hours.
  • Demonstrate ownership, initiative and independence in tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide race and test support, factory based, for all events during the year.
  • Assist with pre- and post-event analysis tasks for each event covering data and competitor information.
  • Run and monitor a range of software systems during race and test events, including input parameterisation.
  • Assist with live analysis and support during free-practice, qualifying and races.
  • Carry out ad-hoc tasks such as investigating data trends or opponent behaviour.
  • Develop and automate tools and analyse routines in Python and/or JavaScript.

  • Apply your learning in one of the most technically demanding global sports.

Key Responsibilities

We have two exciting opportunities for a current university student to join either the Race Strategy or Race Engineering Team on an Industrial Placement. The destination will be an outcome of the assessment and selection process. The successful candidates will work as part of the race team running support systems and providing analysis of data for both race and test events. Outside of these events the successful candidates will contribute towards development and automation of tools used within the race team.

About You

Essential:



  • Be currently studying a BSc / Beng or a combined undergraduate masters in MSc / Meng in Engineering / Maths / Physics / Computer Science.

  • Have a strong background in an engineering discipline with excellent skills in Mathematics and Physics.

  • Have at least one year remaining on your current course or be enrolled on your next course* from the point at which you start your placement with us (*please note that if you will be enrolled on a Masters or PhD course you will need to be able to evidence enrolment to confirm eligibility).

  • The ability to apply their reflective nature to understanding a problem and adopt a continuous improvement mindset to tasks.

  • Flexibility in hours, enthusiasm to support F1 race weekend work is required.

  • A ‘can do’, ‘team‑playing’ attitude and the ability to work to strict deadlines under minimal supervision.

  • Take full ownership of their work, driving projects forward with initiative and independence.

  • Be adaptable, have a proactive mindset, a collaborative approach and thrive in a team environment.

  • Show determination and resilience when facing challenges.

  • Have keen attention to detail.

  • Possess an analytical and inquisitive approach.
