Job summary

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team in Brackley, UK invites a year-in-industry placement in the Car Build department. You will join a cohort of students, contribute to tooling design, process development and documentation, and gain hands-on experience in a technically demanding sport.

From late June 2027 to late July 2028, you will work on-site at our Brackley factory, supported and trained throughout the year while collaborating with multiple functions across the team.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic background in Mechanical/Aero/Motorsports engineering.
  • Experience with Solidworks, NX or Fusion 360 for design.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and Python.
  • Year of study remaining on current course or next course from start.
  • Ability to own work, drive projects and work independently.
  • Adaptable, proactive and collaborative mindset.
  • Attention to detail with analytical approach.

Responsibilities

  • Design tooling and parts packaging for the car build process.
  • Service and calibrate department equipment with external suppliers as needed.
  • Develop Build processes and improve efficiency.
  • Audit Build-related documents for compliance and traceability.

Join the Car Build department as we take on the challenge of Formula One’s exciting new era of sustainable technical regulations.

By spending your year in industry with us, you will:

  • Apply your learning in one of the most technically demanding global sports.
  • Take on responsibility as you are supported and trained throughout your year.
  • Join us for a year-long placement from the end of June 2027 to the end of July 2028.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment at our state-of-the-art factory in Brackley.
  • Be an integral part of a cohort of students working across all functions of our team.
Key Responsibilities

The Car Build department is responsible for the assembly of most major components that make up our race cars. As a key member of this team, you will directly support our various departments with a wide range of tasks.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • The design of components such as special tooling and parts packaging.
  • Servicing and calibration of department equipment (including interaction with outside suppliers).
  • Car Build process development.
  • The auditing of various Build related documents.
About You
  • Have a strong academic background in a Mechanical/Aero/Motorsports engineering discipline.
  • Be conversant with Solidworks, Siemens NX, Fusion 360 or similar design software.
  • Have confident communication skills.
  • Be comfortable with Excel, Word & Python.
  • Have at least one year remaining on your current course or be enrolled on your next course* from the point at which you start your placement with us (*please note that if you will be enrolled on a Masters or PhD course you will need to be able to evidence enrolment to confirm eligibility).
  • Take full ownership of their work, driving projects forward with initiative and independence.
  • Be adaptable, have a proactive mindset, a collaborative approach and thrive in a team environment.
  • Show determination and resilience when facing challenges.
  • Have keen attention to detail.
  • Possess an analytical and inquisitive approach.
  • Relish challenges and enjoy pushing for continuous improvement.
