Job summary

Rise Technical Recruitment Limited is seeking an R&D Advanced Power Systems Technician for a day‑shift contract in Peterborough. The role involves build/strip/measure activities, diagnostics, and reporting data to engineering leads within an electrification and powertrain development programme.

You will join a multi‑disciplinary R&D setup working across mechanical, electrical, diagnostic and testing activities with occasional travel required. The position is on-site in Peterborough.

Qualifications

• Completed a modern apprenticeship or BTEC in Mechanical or Electrical discipline.
• Strong hands-on diagnostics, fault-finding, repair, rebuild and build/strip experience.
• Full clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.

R&D Test Technician

£25.95 per hour + Inside IR35 + Day Shift + Training On Internal Systems + Travel Opportunities

Peterborough (Commutable from: Cambridge, Huntingdon, Stamford, Ely, Bedford, Northampton, Newmarket, Wisbech)

Are you an R&D Advanced Power Systems Technician looking to work on electrification, hybrid and powertrain development, with a day‑shift pattern and an inside IR35 contract? Do you enjoy build/strip/rebuild, diagnostics and test activity where your work directly supports engineering decisions?

This is a secure long‑term contract opportunity in an advanced engineering environment, offering day shifts (08:00‑16:30) and the chance to develop capability on specialist internal systems and tooling. You'll be trusted to deliver to programme deadlines, with occasional travel as projects require.

You'll be joining a multi‑disciplinary R&D set‑up working across emerging powertrain technologies and test‑bed development, in a highly visible team supporting multiple internal stakeholders. The role offers broad exposure across mechanical, electrical, diagnostic and testing activities.

Based on‑site in Peterborough, you'll support advanced power system development programmes, carrying out build/strip/measure work, electrical safety checks, test‑bed activity, and reporting data/issues back to engineering leads.

This role suits a high‑development, technically driven engineer who wants depth of skill, variety across new technologies, and a role where strong hands‑on delivery and problem‑solving are recognised.

The Role:

• Hands‑on R&D technician work across electrification, diesel, hybrid, powertrain and transmission development


• On‑site in Peterborough, supporting engineering leads with build/strip/measure, testing, and technical reporting


• Day shift (5‑day week 08:00‑16:30); some early/late working as needed, with shift work potentially in future

The Person:

• Completed a modern apprenticeship / BTEC in a Mechanical or Electrical discipline (or equivalent job‑related experience)


• Strong hands‑on technician background: diagnostics/fault‑finding, repair, rebuild, build & strip activities


• Strong Health & Safety focus and problem‑solving; full clean UK driving licence and passport essential (travel as required)
