Role Responsibilities:
To work as directed by the P&T manager and HOD, alone and with other members of the P&T department, to meet the requirements of the operational duties below.
Operational Duties & Key Objectives:
- To work with the P&T Electronics Engineer to provide all-round electronics/controls support for P&T and other production departments as required.
- Specifying, building and programming control systems using National Instruments/Labview, dSpace, and SpeedGoat platforms.
- Maintaining department Matlab analysis scripts and Matlab/Simulink installations.
- Managing department rig PC resources, including specifying new machines.
- Designing and building bespoke electronic equipment and tools.
- Developing bespoke monitoring software and tools.
- System troubleshooting (looms, electronics, rig failures, control software).
- Specifying and working with electric motors/dyno absorbers (asynchronous, PMMs etc).
- Testing communications protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, Ethercat & CANFD.
- Using systems like MESL SECU, HIU, LIU, Atlas, and system monitor.
- Developing P&T expertise in control, electronics, and electrical systems, staying updated with latest technologies.
- Supporting and assisting all P&T team members, working collaboratively.
- Assisting with department electronics projects and upgrades.
- Communicating with other departments regarding test requirements, procedures, and conventions.
Main Duties
- Providing weekly updates on tasks and projects.
- Collaborating with Wind Tunnel Facilities and DIL following WF1 procedures.
- Supporting all activities within the Prototype and Test department, including tasks from the standard P&T job descriptions.
- Monitoring department performance measures and causes of delays.
- Maintaining positive relationships with factory departments.
- Implementing health and safety policies.
- Maintaining high standards of department presentation and organization.
- Leading and developing projects and department tasks.
- Participating in off-site testing events such as VTT, Brake dyno, FIA testing, MIRA K&C, Cranfield CofG, and others.
Brand Management
- Drive high standards of department and test rig presentation for visitors and VIPs.
People & Development
- Contribute to personnel development in controls engineering.
- Provide coaching and mentoring for future team members.
- Identify improvements for department and personal performance.
- Train industrial placement students on department systems.
Communication
- Encourage open communication and positive employee relations.
- Build strong relationships with colleagues and other departments.
Health & Safety
- Be aware of risk assessments and enforce PPE use and safety measures.
- Report incidents and hazards promptly.
- Comply with health and safety obligations to ensure a safe working environment.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive Engineering, or related fields.
- Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) are advantageous.
- Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, CAN configurations.
- Experience with data acquisition and telemetry systems.
- Knowledge of vehicle systems including brakes, differential, clutch, suspension, and steering.
- Familiarity with high voltage and electronic systems management.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
