Job summary

Nu Quantum Ltd in Cambridge seeks a Neutral Atom Systems Architect to lead on the specification and architecture of a Quantum Networking layer for distributed quantum computing with neutral atoms.

You will collaborate with AMO theorists, networking teams and QEC researchers to define interfaces between hardware and QPUs, modelling protocols and setting performance targets for scalable QC systems.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification (PhD preferred) in Physics with neutral-atom quantum computing applications.
• Deep technical expertise in neutral-atom quantum computing and handling of neutral-atom QPUs.
• Strong understanding of laser physics, optical engineering and experimental techniques for neutral-atom systems.
• Expertise in high-fidelity neutral-atom qubit gates and entangling operations with performance optimisation.
• Experience modelling open quantum systems with tools like QuTiP, Mathematica, MATLAB or Python.
• Experience leading technical projects, architectural decisions and budget planning.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the Network System Architecture and all related specifications for Neutral Atoms.
• Define system requirements to enable fault-tolerant distributed quantum computing.
• Lead technical decisions, architecture concepts, and collaboration with AMO theorists and engineering teams.
• Coordinate with Product, Project Management and Finance to scope projects and allocate resources.
