Job summary

Quantum Motion in London is seeking a researcher to tailor high-level quantum algorithms to run on our silicon-based hardware. You will work with an interdisciplinary team to map circuits to our target gate set and explore fault-tolerant approaches.

Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant field, a track record in quantum computing research, and experience with Python and quantum software tools. The role offers early-employee impact, growth opportunities, and a collaborative startup

Qualifications

• PhD in physics, maths, CS, or a related field.
• Track record in quantum computing research (applications, algorithms, architectures, or error correction).
• Knowledge of quantum algorithms: QPE, block encodings, amplitude amplification.
• Familiarity with error correction: surface codes, magic state distillation.
• Experience reporting results in journals.
• Ability to present to technical and non-technical audiences; willingness to travel.
• Familiarity with Python for research and development.
• Strong collaborative mindset and communication skills.
• Curiosity and passion for tackling big challenges in quantum computing.

Responsibilities

• Develop processes to map high-level quantum algorithms to hardware-compatible instructions.
• Assess tradeoffs of quantum error correction tools and select best options.
• Understand architecture requirements and incorporate them into the algorithm-to-hardware breakdown.
• Carefully account for resources: number of qubits and runtime.
• Collaborate with researchers to identify new directions and communicate constraints.
• Work with software engineers to automate parts of the process.
• Present research results at internal and external meetings and events.
