Job summary

Quantum Motion in London is seeking a highly skilled researcher to tailor high-level quantum algorithms for our silicon-based hardware. You will map circuits to our target gate set while exploring error correction strategies and resource requirements.

You will collaborate with quantum engineers and software teams to automate compilation and to push the boundaries of scalable quantum computing. A PhD and strong communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Top-tier education with PhD in a relevant field.
• Track record of research into quantum computing, including applications and algorithms.
• Knowledge of techniques such as quantum phase estimation, block encodings, amplitude amplification.
• Familiarity with surface codes and magic state distillation.
• Experience writing results in scientific reports or journals.
• Ability to present work clearly to technical and non-technical audiences; willingness to travel for conferences.
• Familiarity with Python for research and development.
• Strong collaborative mindset and interpersonal skills.
• Inquisitive nature and passion for tackling big challenges in quantum computing.

Responsibilities

• Develop processes to map high-level quantum algorithms to hardware-compatible instructions.
• Understand tradeoffs between quantum error correction tools and identify best choices.
• Consider architecture-level requirements when breaking down algorithms to hardware.
• Account for resources required to run target algorithms, including qubits and runtime.
• Collaborate with researchers to identify new directions and communicate constraints.
• Work with software engineers to automate portions of the compilation process.
• Present research results at internal and external meetings and events.
