Job summary

Nottingham City Council is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the Asset Management team. You will manage cost control, estimates and valuations across multiple projects, ensuring value for money while maintaining quality and programme.

The role requires strong commercial acumen, ability to work with contractors and consultants, and a proactive, organised approach to delivery. Hybrid working arrangements are in place.

Working Hours:37 Hours Per Week - Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:30am – 5:00pm

Worker Type:Hybrid Worker - working time will be split between your work base and working remotely in agreement with the Line Manager.

Salary:Grade I - starting salary of£47,665per annum (Level one) rising to£50,908per annum(Level four)

About You

You will be an experienced and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor with a strong understanding of cost management, estimating and financial control within the construction sector. Confident working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously whilst ensuring costs are accurately forecast, monitored and controlled throughout the project lifecycle.

You will possess excellent analytical and negotiation skills, with experience in managing variations, preparing valuations and agreeing final accounts. Your commercial awareness will enable you to identify risks and opportunities, challenge costs where necessary and deliver value for money without compromising quality or programme.

You will be comfortable working closely with project managers, contractors, consultants and other stakeholders, building positive working relationships to support successful project delivery. A sound understanding of procurement, contract administration and construction processes is essential, together with the ability to interpret drawings, specifications and scopes of work.

Most importantly, you will be proactive, organised and solutions focused, with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes, maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the successful delivery of development, refurbishment and capital investment projects.

The ideal candidate will have:

1. Experience preparing cost estimates, tender documentation and budget forecasts for construction and refurbishment projects.
2. Strong commercial and financial management skills, including cost control, forecasting, variations and final accounts.
3. Excellent negotiation skills, with experience securing best value from contractors, subcontractors and suppliers.
4. Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documents to produce accurate cost plans and estimates.
5. Experience administering construction contracts, evaluating tenders and leading pre-contract meetings.
6. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to deliver value for money whilst maintaining quality and compliance standards.
