Job summary

Aldwych Consulting is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support major UK infrastructure programmes. You will work within client teams, delivering commercial outcomes across utilities, defence, aviation, energy, highways and rail.

The role emphasizes relationship building, cost monitoring, and effective contract administration within a collaborative commercial team.

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of RICS requirements or progressing towards it.
  • Experience delivering civil infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC, JCT, ICC or FIDIC standard contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, teams and contractors.
  • Monitor project costs and keep work within budget.
  • Validate costs, applications and payments from contractors/suppliers.
  • Produce regular commercial and financial reports on cost performance.
  • Assist procurement activities including contractor evaluation and appointment.
  • Administer contracts and ensure contractual compliance.
  • Review and approve contract variations and quotes.
  • Identify commercial risks and support value engineering.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records with project teams.
  • Mentor and support junior commercial staff.

Job DescriptionQuantity Surveyor - Major Infrastructure Projects

Location: Swindon Are you a Quantity Surveyor looking to work on some of the UK's most high-profile infrastructure projects? We're recruiting on behalf of a leading consultancy for an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative commercial team supporting major programmes across the utilities, defence, aviation, energy, highways and rail sectors. This is a client-facing role, with the opportunity to work directly within client teams through long-term secondments, gaining invaluable project experience while developing your career within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.


The Role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you'll play a key role in the commercial delivery of complex infrastructure projects, working closely with project managers, contractors and client stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.


Key Responsibilities


  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, project teams and contractors.

  • Monitor and control project costs, ensuring projects are delivered within budget.

  • Validate contractor and supplier costs, applications and payments.

  • Produce regular commercial and financial reports, presenting cost performance and risk updates.

  • Support procurement activities, including contractor evaluation and appointment.

  • Administer construction contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.

  • Manage contract variations, assessing validity, reviewing quotations and agreeing changes.

  • Identify and mitigate commercial risks while supporting value engineering initiatives.

  • Maintain accurate commercial records alongside project management teams.

  • Mentor and support junior colleagues, contributing to the development of the wider commercial team.


About You

We're looking for candidates who can demonstrate:



  • Membership of, or progress towards, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or an equivalent professional body.

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.

  • Experience working on civil infrastructure projects.

  • Knowledge of standard UK construction contracts, including NEC, ICC, FIDIC or JCT.

  • Strong commercial, analytical and stakeholder management skills.

  • Previous experience supporting or mentoring junior team members.
