Job summary

National Grid in the United Kingdom is hiring a Quantity Surveyor to manage commercial aspects of high-voltage substations, transformers, and civil works with project values up to £6 million. Hybrid working from multiple offices is offered, with a salary up to £65,000 plus a £3,000 market supplement.

You will handle NEC contracts, variations, and payments, liaising with stakeholders and driving projects forward with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• HNC/L4 qualification in Construction, Engineering or Quantity Surveying.
• Experience with main contractors and contract administration.
• Strong stakeholder management across internal and external teams.
• Willingness to travel with UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Take commercial control of high-voltage substation projects, incl. switchgear, transformers, civil works, up to £6 million.
• Manage NEC contracts, ensuring compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Resolve variations and assess programme impacts, certifying payments and negotiating outcomes.
• Communicate with stakeholders to align objectives and progress.
• Undertake site measurements and value works from first principles with accurate reporting.
• Handle variations and payments to contractors, ensuring processes are followed.
• Work independently on a portfolio of projects with proactive problem solving.
