Job summary

National Grid is seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to join a team delivering critical UK electricity transmission projects. The role covers commercial control, NEC contract administration, variations, and payment certification. You’ll work across multiple offices, with hybrid working and travel as needed to keep projects moving forward.

The position emphasizes autonomy, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring value while maintaining quality across complex programmes.

Qualifications

• HNC/L4 qualification in Construction, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying.
• Experience with main contractors and contract administration.
• Stakeholder management across internal and external teams.
• Self-sufficient, able to manage workload with minimal oversight.
• Willing to travel with occasional overnight stays and a UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Take commercial control of high-voltage substation projects up to £6 million.
• Manage NEC contracts and administer them throughout the lifecycle.
• Resolve variations, assess programme impacts, certify payments, and negotiate.
• Communicate clearly with stakeholders on objectives and progress.
• Undertake site measurements and value works from first principles.
• Handle variations/payments to contractors and ensure progress.
• Work independently on a portfolio of projects.
