Job summary

National Grid in the United Kingdom is seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to join our delivery teams on high-voltage projects. You will manage NEC contracts, assess variations, certify payments and negotiate outcomes that balance fairness and value.

Based from multiple offices with hybrid working, you will handle projects up to £6 million, travel as needed, and work with a range of stakeholders to keep programmes moving and compliant.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC/L4 qualification in Construction, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying.
• Experience with main contractors and strong contract administration.
• Willing to travel, with occasional overnight stays, and hold a full UK driving licence.
• Self-sufficient and capable of managing workload to keep projects moving forward.

Responsibilities

• Take commercial control of high-voltage substation projects, including switchgear replacements and civil works, up to £6 million.
• Manage NEC contracts, ensuring compliance and effective administration throughout the lifecycle.
• Resolve variations and assess programme impacts, certifying payments and negotiating outcomes.
• Communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders to ensure alignment on objectives and progress.
• Undertake site measurements and value works from first principles with accurate reporting.
• Handle variations and payments to contractors, ensuring proper processes are followed.
• Work independently on a portfolio of projects with proactive problem-solving.
