Job summary

Thorn Baker Construction is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor for their Coventry-based team. The role focuses on commercial management from procurement to final account, delivering projects profitably and on schedule.

Ideal candidates will have 2-3 years of QS experience, with exposure to subcontracting or specialist contracting. Offsite or timber frame background is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Procure, negotiate and administer subcontract packages.
  • Prepare applications for payments, valuations and final accounts.
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts and cash flow.
  • Identify and manage commercial and contractual risk.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and project progress.
  • Ensure contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the resolution of commercial issues and disputes.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal teams.

Our client is a market-leading specialist in panelised offsite construction, delivering innovative building solutions across the education, healthcare, residential, commercial and life sciences sectors. Backed by one of the UK's largest construction groups, they combine the stability of a major contractor with the agility and innovation of a specialist business.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to join their expanding commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 2-3 years' commercial experience who is looking to develop their career within a forward-thinking business at the forefront of modern methods of construction.

The Role

Working as part of an experienced commercial team, you'll be responsible for the commercial management of projects from procurement through to final account, helping to ensure projects are delivered successfully and profitably.

  • Procuring, negotiating and administering subcontract packages
  • Preparing applications for payment, valuations and final accounts
  • Managing project budgets, forecasts and cash flow
  • Identifying and managing commercial and contractual risk

About You

The business is keen to speak with candidates from a variety of construction backgrounds. Previous offsite or timber frame experience is beneficial but not essential.

You’ll Ideally Have
  • 2-3 years' Quantity Surveying or commercial experience
  • Experience working for a subcontractor or specialist contractor
Education Sector Experience (preferred But Not Essential)
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A proactive attitude and a desire to progress your career
