Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor for the Net Zero Teesside project at Redcar and Cleveland. You will manage project costs, budgets and reporting while negotiating subcontract packages and ensuring value and governance.

You will collaborate with clients and supply chain partners, lead cost control efforts and contribute to continuous improvement and LEAN practices within a high-performing commercial team.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • Membership of RICS/ICES/CIOB or working towards.
  • Experience managing project costs, forecasts and reporting.
  • Strong contract administration and change management knowledge.
  • Experience working with clients and supply chain partners.

Responsibilities

  • Manage costs, budgets, forecasts and reporting for your area.
  • Review tender information and prepare activity/resource schedules.
  • Negotiate Subcontract packages, variations and compensation events.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and commercial outcomes.
  • Assist with claims, delay and disruption submissions.
  • Build relationships with customers, stakeholders and supply chain.
  • Assist procurement strategies and programme development.
  • Mentor junior members of the commercial team.
  • Promote LEAN and digital ways of working.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Quantity Surveyor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

What you'll be doing

As a Quantity Surveyor, you'll play a key role in managing the commercial performance of your projects, ensuring value for money while maintaining the highest standards of quality and governance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing project costs, budgets, forecasts and reporting for your area of responsibility.
  • Reviewing tender information and preparing activity and resource schedules.
  • Negotiating subcontract packages, variations and compensation events.
  • Monitoring subcontractor performance and commercial outcomes.
  • Supporting the preparation of claims, delay and disruption submissions where required.
  • Building strong relationships with customers, stakeholders and supply chain partners.
  • Assisting with procurement strategies and programme development.
  • Supporting, mentoring and developing junior members of the commercial team.
  • Promoting continuous improvement, LEAN principles and digital ways of working.
Who we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a proven track record of managing project costs and commercial outcomes on major construction or infrastructure projects.

Essential:

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent).
  • Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB, or working towards professional qualification.
  • Experience managing project costs, forecasts and commercial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of contract administration and change management.
  • Experience working closely with clients, supply chain partners and project teams.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable:

  • Chartered status (MRICS, MCICES or MCIOB).
  • Experience leading or mentoring Assistant, Graduate or Trainee Quantity Surveyors.
  • Experience working on large infrastructure, energy or major projects.
  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
