Reed Specialist Recruitment is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor for an award-winning, family-owned construction business based near Manchester. You will join a team delivering land reclamation, civils, and environmental improvement schemes, with responsibility for commercial management across active projects.

The role requires strong experience in valuations, final accounts, cost reporting, and subcontract management, with excellent negotiation and risk-management skills.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial management and the full surveying process.
• Solid knowledge of contract law, cost reporting, valuations and final accounts.
• Experience in managing sub-contract accounts from appointment to final settlement.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage risk and drive best practice across a range of civil/highway projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage valuations, payments, and commercial reporting.
• Oversee subcontractor procurement and management, ensuring compliance with financial, contractual and H&S requirements.
• Assess and value variations, handling claims and extensions of time.
• Liaise with clients and supply chain on commercial matters and contract administration support.

Quantity Surveyor

Annual Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 plus Car Allowance & Benefits

Location: Manchester

Job Type: Full-time, PermanentJoin an award-winning, family-owned construction business based in Manchester, dedicated to improving lives through our projects. We are currently seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our Land Reclamation and Civils division, which is instrumental in delivering civil engineering, infrastructure, and environmental improvement schemes.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Manage valuations, payments, and commercial reporting, including cost value reconciliations and final accounts.
• Oversee subcontractor procurement and management, ensuring compliance with financial, contractual, and health & safety requirements.
• Assess and value changes, handling variations, compensation events, and claims for extensions of time or loss/expense.
• Liaise with clients and the supply chain on commercial matters and provide contract administration support.
• Maximise project profitability through risk management, dispute resolution, and cost control.
• Support estimating teams in pricing tenders where required.
• Provide commercial guidance to project teams, ensuring adherence to change control and contract procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong background in commercial management and the full surveying process.
• Solid knowledge of construction contract law, cost reporting, valuations, and the preparation of final accounts.
• Experience in managing sub-contract accounts from appointment through to final settlement.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage risk, mitigate challenges, and drive best practice in a variety of projects including civil engineering, highways, utilities, regeneration, and public realm schemes.
