Job summary

Square One Construction Ltd in Ringwood, Hampshire, is seeking an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team and help manage budgets from procurement through final account.

You will work closely with project managers and site teams, bring at least 5 years' main-contracting experience, and benefit from a competitive salary, pension, company vehicle or allowance, and extensive holiday and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role.
• Experience working for a main contractor.
• Good knowledge of subcontract procurement and commercial management.
• Experience with valuations, variations, cost reporting and final accounts.
• A good understanding of JCT contracts.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to completion.
• Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts and cost reports.
• Handle subcontractor procurement, tendering and package analysis.
• Prepare and issue subcontract orders and associated documentation.
• Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations, payments and variations.
• Review and agree variations and applications for payment.
• Monitor project costs and identify risks and opportunities.
• Assist with monthly valuations and applications to clients.
• Manage change, loss and expense and contractual notices where appropriate.
• Assist with final accounts and commercial close-out.
• Work closely with the Project Manager, Site Manager and wider project team.
• Maintain good commercial relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.

Intermediate Quantity Surveyor

Square One Construction Ltd is an established main contractor based in Ringwood, Hampshire, delivering high-quality construction, refurbishment and fit-out projects across the South of England.

With a strong pipeline of work and projects typically valued between £1m and £7m, we are seeking an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious quantity surveyor with solid main-contracting experience who is ready to take the next step in their career. You will gain increasing responsibility for projects and a clear opportunity to progress towards a Senior Quantity Surveyor role.

The Role

Working as part of our commercial team, you will support the commercial management of projects from procurement through to final account.

• Assisting with the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to completion.
• Preparing and managing project budgets, forecasts and cost reports.
• Subcontractor procurement, tendering and package analysis.

About You

We are looking for someone who is commercially aware, organised and keen to develop their career within a growing main contractor.

Ideally, you will have:

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role.
• Experience working for a main contractor.
• Good knowledge of subcontract procurement and commercial management.
• Experience with valuations, variations, cost reporting and final accounts.
• A good understanding of construction contracts, JCT necessary.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• The ability to work independently while also being a strong team player.
• A professional and practical approach to problem solving.

A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction is preferred, although relevant experience will also be considered.

Location

Based at our Ringwood, Hampshire office, with regular travel to project sites across the South Coast, London and Home Counties.
