Job summary

Skilled Careers is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join a PLC housebuilder in Northampton. You will take responsibility for commercial management of allocated new-build developments, working with procurement through to final accounts to keep projects on budget.

You will monitor development costs, forecasts, and subcontract packages, produce cost-to-complete reports, and contribute to risk mitigation through accurate cost data and clear commercial reporting.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within housebuilding or residential construction.
• Strong understanding of subcontract procurement, valuations and final accounts.
• Experience managing budgets and preparing commercial reports.
• Confident negotiation and communication skills.
• Organised and proactive with meticulous attention to detail.
• Good working knowledge of Excel and reporting systems.
• Qualification in Quantity Surveying or related discipline, or equivalent experience.

Quantity Surveyor – Housebuilding

Skilled Careers is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor to join a commercial team of six within an established PLC housebuilder in Northampton.

You’ll take responsibility for the commercial management of allocated new-build housing developments, working closely with construction and technical teams from procurement through to final accounts.

The Role

You’ll manage development costs, maintain accurate forecasts and oversee subcontract packages, helping ensure projects are delivered within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage development budgets, monitor expenditure and prepare cost-to-complete forecasts.
• Produce regular cost-value reconciliations and commercial reports.
• Prepare tender enquiries, analyse quotations and negotiate subcontract packages.
• Place subcontract orders with clearly defined scopes of work.
• Assess and agree subcontractor valuations, variations and final accounts.
• Monitor site progress and attend commercial and construction meetings.
• Identify commercial risks, potential overspends and opportunities for cost savings.
• Review drawings and specifications, assessing the financial impact of changes.
• Work closely with site and technical teams to resolve commercial queries.
• Maintain accurate records and manage payments in line with agreed procedures.
