Job summary

Build Recruitment is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a growing contractor’s commercial team from their Waterloo office in London. You will manage the day-to-day commercial delivery across projects, ensuring costs, margins and procurement meet targets.

The role requires proven QS experience in main contractor settings, knowledge of contracts, and strong negotiation skills. You will work closely with project teams to align commercial targets with operational objectives.

Responsibilities

• Managing the commercial performance of allocated projects.
• Monitoring project costs, budgets and forecast final accounts.
• Measuring and valuing works for customer applications and supplier payments.
• Preparing valuations, applications for payment and commercial reports.
• Monitoring project margins and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
• Managing variations and changes to contracts.
• Procuring and managing subcontractors, materials and plant.
• Negotiating subcontractor accounts and agreeing payments.
• Monitoring debtors, creditors and retentions.
• Supporting the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
• Assisting with the resolution of commercial issues, disputes and claims.
• Producing accurate cost reports and forecasts.
• Working closely with Project Managers to ensure commercial and operational objectives are aligned.
• Building and maintaining relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Ensuring commercial procedures and governance requirements are followed.
• Supporting Senior QS / Managing Surveyor with wider commercial activities.

We are currently working with an established construction and refurbishment contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team, based from their Waterloo office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused Quantity Surveyor to join a growing business and play a key role in the successful commercial delivery of a range of projects across London.

Working closely with the Managing Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers and wider operational teams, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day commercial management of projects, ensuring costs, margins, procurement and contractual requirements are effectively managed.

The Role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of allocated projects from procurement through to completion.

Your responsibilities will include:

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor environment
• Strong understanding of construction processes and commercial management
• Experience with valuations, variations, procurement, subcontractor management and final accounts
• Good knowledge of construction contracts and forms of measurement
• Experience monitoring project costs, margins and financial performance
• Strong negotiation and communication skills
• Good analytical and problem-solving ability
• The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider commercial team
• Strong Microsoft Office skills
• A relevant BSc/HND in Quantity Surveying or commercially related subject is preferred
• RICS or CIOB accreditation is desirable
• Relevant CSCS qualification/card
