Job summary

Turnbull is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the team on our Sizewell C contract, focusing on commercial leadership and cost management. The role demands strong NEC contract knowledge and the ability to manage projects from £10k to £10m quickly and accurately.

You will produce monthly applications for payment, provide site-facing commercial guidance, and mentor junior staff while working with project managers and engineers to drive value and mitigate risk.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of NEC contracts and contract law.
• Proven experience in cost control, reporting and value engineering.
• Experience using CEMAR or similar contract management tools is desirable.
• Degree-level qualification; professional qualification (RICS/CICES) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage change through CEMAR and adherence to contract timescales.
• Support timely production of Monthly Applications for Payment.
• Provide commercial advice to the site team.
• Prepare internal contract valuations and cost progress assessments.
• Prepare monthly cost and value reports for stakeholder review.
• Foster communication with project managers, the managing QS and engineering teams.
• Attend forecast meetings and contribute to data-driven decisions and risk mitigation.
• Support Contracts Managers and operations with commercial guidance.
• Mentor junior members of the commercial team and promote knowledge transfer.
• Manage projects to maximise opportunities and minimise risk.

Our contract at Sizewell C is at it's start of a journey, presenting an exciting prospect to join our Commercial team for an experienced Quantity Surveyor. This multifaceted role offers ample room for personal development for the ideal candidate. What you'll do

The main part of your job will be:

• managing change through CEMAR, ensuring adherence to contractual timescales
• supporting timely production of Monthly Applications for Payment in accordance with the conditions of the contract
• providing commercial advice to the site team
• preparing internal contract valuations, ensuring accurate assessments of project costs and progress
• preparing monthly cost and value reports
• fostering effective communication with project managers, the managing QS and associated engineering disciplines
• compiling forecasts and attend forecast meetings, contributing to data-driven decision-making and proactive risk mitigation strategies
• supporting Contracts Managers and operational teams by offering sound commercial advice on projects, leveraging industry expertise and best practices
• mentoring junior members of the commercial team, facilitating their professional growth and knowledge transfer, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development
• Managing projects to maximise opportunities and minimise risk.

What you'll need

To be successful, you'll need:

• to possess an excellent understanding of NEC forms of contracts
• excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and office packages
• the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ranging from £10k to £10m
• excellent commercial awareness
• to be driven and self-motivated
• experience in producing internal and external reports
• a relevant, degree level qualification - desirable
• a nuclear, M&E, Water or civils background - desirable
• experience working under TSC contracts - desirable
• a relevant professional qualification (RICS/CICES) - desirable.
