Job summary

Smart 4 EPC is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor for our HS2 Utilities Programme in London. The role is hybrid (4 days in office / 1 day WFH) with a salary up to £60,000 plus benefits.

You will manage NEC-based contracts, cost reporting and commercial risk across major infrastructure projects. Experience on projects valued £100m+ and utilities/rail exposure is preferred; degree-qualified with potential RICS progression is expected.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
• NEC contracts experience and understanding.
• Experience managing subcontractor accounts, valuations and variations.
• Strong commercial reporting, cost control and change management.
• Ability to interpret contractual documentation and identify commercial risks.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience on major infrastructure projects valued at £100m+.
• Utilities, rail or transportation project experience.
• Membership of RICS or progress towards accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Administer subcontract and supplier contracts in line with contract requirements.
• Support EWNs and Compensation Events management.
• Assist with monthly valuation and payment processes for subcontractors.
• Produce accurate cost reports, forecasts and expenditure updates.
• Monitor project costs against budgets and target costs.
• Support cash flow forecasts and financial reporting.
• Assist in change management processes and assess commercial impact.
• Review project instructions and identify cost implications.
• Help manage commercial risk and contingency allowances.
• Assist in final accounts preparation and agreement.
• Review and analyse subcontractor quotations and tender returns.
• Support procurement activities and provide input into tender evaluations.
• Collaborate with operations to achieve commercial objectives.
• Maintain accurate project records and contractual documentation.

Quantity Surveyor

Location: Euston, London

Salary: Up to £60,000 + Benefits

Working Pattern: Hybrid (4 days office / 1 day WFH)

Our client, a leading main contractor delivering major infrastructure projects across the UK, is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join their team working on the HS2 Utilities Programme based in Euston, London.

Experience working under NEC contracts is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer subcontract and supplier contracts in accordance with contractual requirements.
• Support the management and assessment of Early Warning Notices (EWNs) and Compensation Events.
• Assist with the monthly valuation and payment process for subcontractors.
• Produce accurate cost reports, forecasts and expenditure updates.
• Monitor project costs against budgets and target costs.
• Support the preparation of cash flow forecasts and financial reporting.
• Assist with change management processes and assess the commercial impact of project changes.
• Review project instructions and identify associated cost implications.
• Help manage commercial risk and contingency allowances across project packages.
• Assist in the preparation and agreement of final accounts.
• Review and analyse subcontractor quotations and tender returns.
• Support procurement activities and provide commercial input into tender evaluations.
• Work collaboratively with operational teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
• Maintain accurate project records and contractual documentation.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities or major construction projects.
• Strong understanding and practical experience working with NEC contracts.
• Experience managing subcontractor accounts, valuations and variations.
• Good knowledge of commercial reporting, cost control and change management.
• Ability to interpret contractual documentation and identify commercial risks.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial management systems.
• Experience working on major infrastructure projects valued at £100m+.
• Utilities, rail or transportation project experience.
• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
Membership of RICS or progress towards professional accreditation.
