Job summary

EMBS Engineering is recruiting an experienced Quality Manager to join a highly regulated manufacturing environment in Wolverhampton. The role focuses on establishing a new manufacturing facility and shaping the QMS to underpin it, reporting to the Head of Quality.

You will lead QA/QC across project and operational activities, with emphasis on NDT, dimensional control and weld quality, driving a right-first-time culture and audit readiness.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Quality Manager or Senior Quality Engineer in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, EN 3834 and EN 1090.
  • Experience leading QA/QC for the setup of a new manufacturing facility.
  • Able to secure BPSS and Security Clearance (SC) as a conditional requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the site's QA/QC strategy in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Lead operational quality functions including dimensional inspection, NDT oversight and weld quality assurance.
  • Manage compilation and approval of project quality documentation (IQPs, PQPs, Lifetime Records).
  • Support design and implementation of the new facility from a quality perspective, embedding inspection checkpoints.
  • Lead development and rollout of a QMS aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 3834 and nuclear requirements.
  • Conduct root cause investigations and track corrective/preventive actions.
  • Represent the business during client and regulatory audits and maintain audit readiness.
  • Coach and mentor quality behaviours across the organisation.

Role Overview

EMBS Engineering, on behalf of one of our key clients, are recruiting for an experienced Quality Manager to join a highly regulated manufacturing environment operating to nuclear industry standards. This is a key leadership role, supporting the setup of a new manufacturing facility and shaping the Quality Management System that underpins it.

Reporting to the Head of Quality, you will lead the quality function across both project and operational activities, with particular focus on dimensional control, non-destructive testing (NDT), and quality engineering. You will play a central role in the development and implementation of a fit-for-purpose Quality Management System (QMS) as part of a new facility build, while also driving day-to-day quality performance across the site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the site's QA/QC strategy, working closely with the Head of Quality to align with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead operational quality functions including dimensional inspection, NDT oversight and weld quality assurance, promoting a right-first-time culture.
  • Manage the compilation and approval of project quality documentation, including Inspection & Test Plans, Project Quality Plans and Lifetime Records.
  • Support the design and implementation of the new manufacturing facility from a quality and compliance perspective, embedding inspection and traceability checkpoints into facility layout.
  • Lead the development and rollout of a QMS aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 3834 and relevant nuclear industry requirements.
  • Conduct and lead root cause investigations, ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented and tracked.
  • Represent the business during client and regulatory audits, maintaining audit readiness through robust quality controls and traceability systems.
  • Coach and mentor quality behaviours across the organisation, with a strong focus on shop floor and operations teams.
Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Quality Manager or Senior Quality Engineer within a regulated, high-integrity manufacturing environment (nuclear, aerospace, defence or similar).
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001, EN 3834 and EN 1090.
  • Experience as a Lead or Internal Auditor for ISO 9001.
  • In-depth knowledge of welding quality (e.g. CSWIP, PCN), NDT processes and dimensional control methods.
  • Hands-on experience supporting the setup of a new manufacturing facility and implementing supporting quality systems.
  • Experience developing and implementing a QMS compliant with ISO 9001, ISO 3834 and nuclear industry frameworks.
  • Strong background in process improvement, with practical problem-solving skills and the ability to lead improvement activities (e.g. 8D, Six Sigma, 5S, 7 Wastes).
  • Strong stakeholder management, leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to secure BPSS and Security Clearance (SC), which is a conditional requirement of this position.
