Job summary

GirlingJones is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead quality activities on a major defence infrastructure project in Plymouth. You will develop, implement and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS), drive audits, monitor objectives and promote a culture of quality across the team.

The role requires senior QA leadership, ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, IOSH Managing Safely and CSCS Manager/White PQP/AQP cards, with strong stakeholder engagement and a track record of continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience as a Quality or Construction Manager within major infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction, Quality or related discipline.
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualification.
  • IOSH Managing Safely.
  • CSCS White PQP/AQP Card and CSCS Manager Card.
  • Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems and compliance requirements.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience of audit management, quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Establishing and monitoring quality objectives in line with project and business goals.
  • Planning and leading internal and external audits, including certification activities.
  • Managing, mentoring and developing the quality team.
  • Overseeing quality investigations and ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards and regulatory obligations.
  • Producing quality performance reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives and supporting quality‑focused risk management.
  • Promoting a positive quality culture across the project.

Quality Manager
Location: Plymouth – Devonport Dockyard
Rate: £335 – £390 per day (PAYE rate including Holiday Pay – no umbrella charges or deductions!!)
Hours: 45 hours per week | Monday to Friday

The Role

As Quality Manager, you will be responsible for leading all quality management activities across the project, ensuring compliance with industry standards while driving continuous improvement and promoting a culture of quality throughout the team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Establishing and monitoring quality objectives in line with project and business goals
  • Planning and leading internal and external audits, including certification activities

What We’re Looking For

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of this project, applicants must be British Nationals and eligible to obtain BPSS and SC Security Clearance.
