Job summary

Rittal-CSM Ltd in Plymouth is seeking a Quality Management System (QMS) Engineer to own and continuously improve the QMS, ensuring ISO 9001 compliance and strong process discipline across the business.

Reporting to the Quality Engineering Manager, you will lead audits, develop procedures, KPIs and dashboards, and drive cross‑functional improvement using root cause analysis and 8D methodologies. This is a permanent, full‑time role offering a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• ISO Internal Auditor qualifications and experience maintaining ISO 9001 based QMS in manufacturing/engineering environments.
• Proven ability to plan and conduct internal system/process audits and manage non-conformances and corrective actions.
• Strong knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma principles and practical application of 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa, and FMEA.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and continually improve the QMS in line with ISO 9001 requirements and business objectives.
• Plan and conduct internal and external audits and support certification and supplier/customer audits.
• Investigate non-conformances and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions to closure.
• Lead structured problem-solving activities using 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa, and FMEA.
• Develop, monitor, and report quality KPIs and provide actionable insights.

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Quality professional with a passion for continuous improvement, ISO 9001 compliance, and business process excellence?

We are looking for a proactive and driven Quality Management System (QMS) Engineer to join our Quality Engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the Quality Management System, lead improvement initiatives, and work across the business to ensure our products, processes, and systems consistently meet the highest standards.

Reporting to the Quality Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining, developing, and continually improving the Quality Management System (QMS) across Rittal CSM. The role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, supporting operational excellence, and driving sustainable improvements through effective problem-solving and stakeholder engagement.

Working with departments across the organisation, you will provide guidance on quality best practices, conduct audits, analyse performance data, and support teams in identifying and resolving non-conformances.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and continually improve the Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 requirements, customer expectations, and business objectives.
• Plan and conduct internal system and process audits and support external certification, customer, and supplier audits.
• Investigate non-conformances, facilitate root cause analysis, and oversee corrective actions through to effective closure.
• Lead structured problem-solving activities using methodologies such as 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa, and FMEA.
• Develop, monitor, and report quality and business KPIs, providing meaningful insights and recommendations.
• Create and maintain procedures, work instructions, process maps, and controlled documentation.
• Conduct gap analyses and work collaboratively with process owners to implement improvements.
• Promote a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence throughout the business.

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

• ISO Internal Auditor qualified.
• Proven experience maintaining and improving ISO-based Quality Management Systems within a manufacturing, engineering, or similar environment.
• In-depth knowledge and practical application of ISO 9001.
• Strong knowledge of 8D methodology, root cause analysis, and recognised problem-solving tools.
• Good understanding of Lean and Six Sigma principles.
• Experience conducting and leading internal system and process audits and managing non-conformances and corrective actions.
• Experience creating and managing KPIs, analysing data, and producing meaningful reports and dashboards.
• Working knowledge of ERP systems and the ability to utilise a range of digital business systems.
• Knowledge of document control procedures within a manufacturing environment.
• Excellent Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 skills, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop procedures, process maps, flow charts and gap analyses.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the confidence to influence at all levels of the organisation.

Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

• HNC in an Engineering discipline.
• ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualification, preferably IRCA-certified or equivalent.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent continuous improvement qualification.
• Knowledge of additional management system standards, such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
• Knowledge of change management systems.
• Understanding of New Product Introduction (NPI) principles.
• Proficiency in business systems and reporting tools such as Power BI, Azure DevOps, SharePoint, and Celonis.
• Background working within a highly regulated manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Familiarity with external certification audit processes.
• Ability to lead cross-functional continuous improvement projects.
