Job summary

WEC Group in Darwen, Lancashire, seeks a Quality Engineer to oversee quality and inspection across laser engineering operations. You will raise NCRs, conduct on-site inspections of laser cutting, press brakes and fabrication, and read drawings to ensure conformance in collaboration with operators and the design team.

Ideal candidates will have shopfloor exposure and experience in customer-facing reporting, with strong Excel use and database familiarity to maintain quality records.

Quality Engineer

Salary: Up to £40,000 basic plus – Annual profit share scheme.

The WEC Group are currently hiring a Quality Engineer for our Laser Engineering division based in Darwen, Lancashire.

The ideal candidate would have come from a shopfloor background (ideally in Laser Cutting, Press Braking or Fabrication) and have some experience dealing with Quality and Inspection work.

Our Laser Engineering division houses over 10+ Flat-bed lasers, 2 Tube Lasers, 8 Press Brakes and its very own in-house Welding & Fabrication shopfloor. With a large manufacturing capacity, it is the job of the Quality Engineer to ensure that the work that goes through our doors is up to the standards of all of our customers

About the Role:

• Raising Nonconformance reports to ensure all corrective & preventative actions are put in place (Training Provided)
• Conducting regular inspections of Laser cutting, Press brake and Welding work to ensure they are up to Quality Standards.
• Reading engineering drawings to be able to do said inspections and liaise with operators and design team on the drawings.
• Liaising with customers about Inspection reports and NCRs in a professional and timely manner and overall maintaining good communication with customers.
• Working within a Sub-contract fabrication environment.
• Problem solving general issues that come up within manufacturing.
• Updating our database on the computer using a range of Microsoft packages (Work, Excel and Office)

Key Responsibilities:

• Work collaboratively with the Quality Manager to uphold and enhance quality standards across production.
• Act as the first point of contact for customer quality-related enquiries, addressing concerns, investigating issues, and managing resolution processes.
• Provide hands-on support on the shop floor, ensuring quality processes are followed throughout all stages of production.

Additional Requirements:

• Strong verbal communication skills; comfortable liaising with customers via phone and in person.
• Computer literate, with solid working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and database systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both office and shop floor settings (approximately 50/50 split).

Hours of work:

Wk 1- Monday to Thursday 8:00am – 5:00pm & Friday 8:00am – 2:00pm

Wk 2-Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
