Job summary

Wabtec in Burton on Trent, UK, seeks an experienced Quality Engineer to lead quality activities for the bogie product range within the LH Group division. You will review supplier documentation, manage non-conformances, and release compliant parts to production while ensuring 5S and quality standards are met.

With a strong mechanical background, you will investigate defects, coordinate with customers and suppliers, and drive corrective actions.

Qualifications

• HND or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
• Knowledge of 8D, FMEA, PPAP and their application in manufacturing.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and use calibrated equipment.
• Organised with the ability to manage multiple issues.
• IT literate and proficient in MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead quality activities for the bogie product range, ensuring compliance with specifications and quality standards.
• Review supplier documentation and complete ISIR/FAIR inspections.
• Manage quality records, non-conformances, and supplier quality issues via WIM.
• Release compliant products to production and quarantine non-conforming items.
• Assess returned products, investigate quality concerns, and report findings.
• Liaise with customers and suppliers to resolve rejects and quality-related issues.
• Maintain inspection and quarantine areas in line with 5S standards.
• Prepare quality improvement reports and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Escalate ongoing quality issues and drive corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements.
• Provide wider quality support, including basic Quality Engineer responsibilities as required by the business.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join our team at the LH Group (a Division of Wabtec UK Ltd) based in Burton on Trent we support our customers through maintenance and operation optimisation with customised solutions for spare parts, repair, and overhaul activities on existing trains.

Role: Quality Engineer

Location: Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, (DE13 8EN)

Hours: Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 16:30pm and Friday 08:00am to 13:00pm, 37 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

How will you make a difference?

As a Quality Engineer, you will be detail orientated and highly motivated with a strong mechanical background to join our team in the rail industry. This role will be central to the Bogies team by leading all Quality related activities from root cause investigations, customer and product audits, ensuring FAI’s are fully documented and working closely with internal customer’s.

Are you an individual with the following?

• HND or an Equivalent in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
• Good Knowledge of core quality tools such as 8D, FMEA, PPAP, with demonstrated application in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to use calibrated equipment and inspect components.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Organised with the ability to manage multiple issues.
• IT literate and proficient in Microsoft Office.
