PRS Engineering has engaged with a key client and an established design and manufacturer of Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, processing equipment based in the West Midlands. An exciting opportunity for a QC Inspector has arisen and a self-motivated individual who would like to join a progressing company. This role is based within an established Quality Control department; therefore, a strong team player attitude is essential.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Full UK Driving licence essential
- Minimum GCSE Grade 4 in higher in Maths and English
- Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in a technical discipline, e.g. Mechanical Engineering
- Essential knowledge of Microsoft packages (Outlook, Word, Excel and Access) is required
- Industry or similar industry knowledge is required
Summary of Job
- Responsible for Quality Control Inspection of materials at Goods Inwards, patrol inspection of components on the shop floor and at Sub-Vendors, when required, to final inspection of finished products, prior to despatch
- Activities are to be carried out in accordance with the relevant Quality system, i.e. ISO 9001 and specific customer specifications/requirements
- Responsible for the maintenance and good housekeeping of Goods Inwards storage areas, in accordance with company policies and procedures
Duties and responsibilities
- Shall be fully committed to the achievement of company policies and objectives with special respect to quality and safety
- Manage and monitor resources, operations, and projects to ensure agreed objectives are achieved, taking initiative and persisting with tasks to deliver successful outcomes
Staff relationship
- Responsible to the Quality Control Manager, Quality Control Lead or Quality Assurance & HSE Manager in their absence
- Works with Stores Material Controllers
- Liaises with suppliers, inspectors, 3rd party inspectors and sub-contractors, when required
- Liaises internally with all departments, i.e. Sales, Production, Purchasing, Engineering and Accounts
- Shall possess the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
Inspection
- Responsible for ensuring Goods Inwards material is adequately inspected against Purchase Order prior to release to Stores/Production, i.e. dimensional, visual, material traceability, certification, etc., within reasonable time restraints
- Review and validation of Material Test Certificates, testing reports and traceability documentation
- Responsible for in-process inspection of products, machining, fabrication, testing, assembly, packing and completing inspection Route Cards
- Responsible for ensuring that non-conforming material is identified and quarantined, with supporting NCRs being prepared for issue
- Witnessing pressure tests/non-destructive testing being carried out on/offsite and endorsing certificates, when required
- Responsible for carrying out onsite inspection of goods inwards, in process, hydrotest/NDT and final inspection of products, identifying and issuing final release notes with/without Third party inspectors and clients
- Responsible for carrying out off-site inspections, including final inspection, goods inwards inspection, hydrotest inspection with/without a TPI or client, as designated by the Quality Control Manager, Quality Control Lead or Quality Assurance & HSE Manager
- Responsible for the maintenance of the Stores to a company acceptable level of tidiness, including Health, Safety & Environmental considerations
Documentation
- To assist with Quality Assurance documentation, audits, etc., when required and as requested by the Quality Control Manager, Quality Control Lead or Quality Assurance & HSE Manager in their absence
- To compile Quality documentation and issue completed files to the relevant department
- To undertake reasonable instructions and tasks from senior personnel, commensurate with the nature of the job and in the best interests of the company
Technical Ability
- IT literate with excellent Microsoft Office skills, i.e. Word, Excel & Access
- Minimum of HNC (or equivalent) in a technical discipline (e.g. Mechanical Engineering)
- Experience in a manufacturing or fabrication quality inspection role
- Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings, fabrication drawings and technical specifications
- Experience of problem solving and continuous improvement techniques
- Familiarity with welding and non-destructive testing inspection methods and reporting
- Understanding of dimensional inspection techniques and use of measuring instruments, including vernier calliper, thread gauge, measuring tape, pressure test equipment, and coating inspection equipment

Hours of work
Office hours enable flexi-time working, covering a 37-hour week. Flexible start and finish times are available with core hours which must be covered each day. Monday to Thursday covers an 8-hour shift and Friday covers a 5-hour shift. Further details will be given at interview stage.
