Job summary

Luxfer MEL Technologies in Manchester is seeking a Quality Control Analyst to cover a 6–12 month maternity assignment within the Materials Quality Control team. You will perform hands-on analysis, testing and inspection of magnesium products and support production with accurate, traceable results.

The role requires a degree or equivalent in a chemistry-related field, with experience in industrial QC and a collaborative approach to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience in industrial laboratory or manufacturing QC environment.
• Degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science or Metallurgy.
• Experience testing metallic materials is advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret results.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze raw materials, in-process samples and finished magnesium products.
• Carry out metallurgical and analytical testing using OES, XRF, tensile and corrosion testing.
• Inspect material against specifications and visual standards, escalating nonconformities.
• Maintain traceable records, equipment checks and calibration status.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality and technical teams to deliver timely results.
• Support safety, audits, method improvements and 5S/continuous improvement.

Quality Control Analyst – Magnesium | 6–12 Month Maternity Cover

Manchester | Standard office hours | 37 hours per week | £29,000–£33,000 depending on experience

Bring your analytical experience to a specialist materials business where the quality of your work has a direct impact on production, customers and products used in demanding industries. Luxfer MEL Technologies is looking for an experienced Quality Control Analyst to join our Manchester Materials Quality Control team on a full-time fixed-term contract covering maternity leave.

You will carry out hands‑on analysis, testing and inspection primarily across our magnesium product range, supporting incoming materials, in‑process control and final product release. This is an excellent opportunity for an analyst who enjoys practical laboratory work, understands the importance of accurate and traceable results, and can confidently support a busy manufacturing operation.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare and analyze raw materials, in-process samples and finished magnesium products.
• Carry out metallurgical and analytical testing using techniques such as OES, XRF, tensile and corrosion testing.
• Inspect material against specifications and visual standards, identifying and escalating nonconformities.
• Maintain clear, accurate and traceable records, equipment checks and calibration status.
• Work closely with Production, Quality and technical colleagues to deliver timely results and support investigations.
• Contribute to safe working, audits, method improvements, 5S and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring

• Relevant experience in an industrial laboratory or manufacturing quality‑control environment.
• A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgy or a related discipline, or equivalent practical expertise.
• Experience testing or inspecting metallic materials would be an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail, sound numerical skills and the confidence to interpret and challenge results.
• A disciplined approach to procedures, safety, traceability and right-first-time work.
• Clear communication and the ability to organize priorities independently in a fast‑moving environment.
