Cardiff Council aims to provide a high quality, accessible service whilst carrying out its functions to maintain the councils 13,808 domestic properties and approximately 9 supported accommodation buildings, it is also responsible for 9 high-rise blocks of flats as well as Community Living Complexes.

There is currently 1 vacancy for a Qualified Technical Manager post, within the Responsive Repairs Unit.

About the job

The main function of the role is to be responsible for the day-to-day management of a team of Operatives who will be carrying out repairs to our council stock ensuring an efficient and effective service is provided to our tenants. The post holders will be responsible for our core trades, being Gas, Carpentry, Plumbing and Compliance/Fire Safety.

To participate with the develop of the Responsive Repairs Unit, which provides a high-quality service, to develop policies and procedures and that a proactive approach to the management of the Operatives and repairs is adopted.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring any statutory requirements within their trade for the council stock are met. As well as ensuring all in house Operatives and contractors work to relevant Health and Safety legislation, complete all works to a satisfactory manner and that correct certification is submitted in a timely manner where appropriate.

What We Are Looking For From You

A relevant professional qualification (NVQ level 2 or equivalent) is essential as well as a relevant Health and Safety qualification, and experience of working in a housing environment.

You should also have the ability to work as part of a team, be able to follow complex procedures and have good communication skills.

The successful candidate should have the ability to deliver excellent customer services and work effectively with elected members.

Additional information

Out of Hours duty cover required on rota basis.
