The Emergency Nurse Practitioner/Emergency Care Practitioner (ENP/ECP) will provide autonomous assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management and discharge of patients presenting with minor injuries and illnesses within the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). Working within their professional scope of practice, the post holder will make independent clinical decisions, request and interpret investigations, prescribe where qualified, and develop appropriate management plans to ensure safe, effective and timely patient care.
The post holder will maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records in line with professional, legal and organisational standards. As part of the Emergency Department Enhanced Streaming Team, they will undertake rapid clinical assessment of patients on arrival, identifying the most appropriate care pathway and ensuring safe and effective streaming based on clinical need.
Acting as a senior clinical decision maker, the post holder will provide expert advice and support to nursing, medical and allied health professionals, contributing to the development of less experienced staff through mentorship, clinical leadership and education. Working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, they will support delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care, promote patient safety, service improvement and clinical excellence, and contribute to meeting key performance, quality and access targets across urgent and emergency care services.
Undertake autonomous assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, and discharge of patients presenting with minor injuries and illnesses. Request, interpret, and act upon appropriate investigations within scope of practice. Prescribe medications and treatments where appropriately qualified and authorised. Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and legally compliant patient documentation. Act as a senior clinical decision maker within the Enhanced Streaming Team, ensuring patients are directed to the most appropriate clinical pathway. Support timely patient flow and contribute to the achievement of departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and national standards. Provide expert clinical guidance, leadership, and support to junior colleagues and multidisciplinary team members. Participate in teaching, supervision, and the professional development of staff. Promote a culture of patient safety, clinical excellence, and continuous quality improvement. Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Urgent Treatment Centre, Emergency Department, Acute Services, Community Services, and Primary Care to ensure seamless patient care. Ensure the delivery of a high-quality, safe, effective, and patient-centred service at all times.
