Napier AI’s technology works like a digital detective, combining AI with smart analytics to outthink criminals and protect people’s money from becoming criminal proceeds. It’s not just about stopping crime—it’s about making the financial world safer and more trustworthy for everyone.

After successfully securing another investment round, we are looking to fuel our ongoing growth and to further invest in our AI products. We are currently building out our Tech Hub in Belfast - this is a super exciting time to join Napier in Belfast as we expand.

About the role

The QA Engineer plays a key role within the Napier Engineering group. You will be responsible for building, maintaining, and executing quality-assured automation scripts using modern AI, Machine Learning, and web-based tools. You will investigate root causes of functional issues, and then adjust and improve test cases based on the findings. You will work with business and technical stakeholders to understand, specify, and develop test plans and automated test cases in line with Napier standards. You will work closely with developers to ensure high-quality software with high test coverage. Manual testing activities will also be performed when necessary to cover edge cases and hard-to-automate scenarios. Additionally, you will support QA leads in producing quality metrics and contribute to measures to increase automated test effectiveness and efficiency.

You should be a passionate hands-on technologist eager to improve our platform’s quality through automation, and someone who values embedding automation as a core aspect of development. A desire to teach, learn, and foster a culture of delivery excellence at Napier is also welcome.

You will be a key member of the wider Napier leadership group, working closely with Solution Architects, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to define technical standards and improvements supporting Napier’s goals. Your creativity and innovative ideas will be encouraged and supported.

Key accountabilities:

  • Develop and execute quality-assured automation scripts using machine learning, web, and API-based automation tools.
  • Collaborate with developers to build and execute test cases for new or updated product features.
  • Participate in daily scrum calls, provide progress updates, and propose solutions for blockers.
  • Help collate quality metrics with QA leads and contribute to measures to improve automated testing.
  • Investigate root causes of functional issues and suggest corrective actions.
  • Perform manual testing for edge cases and hard-to-automate scenarios.
  • Participate in technical design workshops and produce technical specification documents as needed.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Experience managing, authoring, and executing test cases for functional and non-functional scenarios.
  • Experience with structured test automation frameworks.
  • Experience delivering software to cloud and on-premises environments, understanding key quality metrics.
  • Knowledge of DevOps and infrastructure engineering principles.
  • Ability to work with engineers and QA professionals to grow automation expertise.

  • Proficiency with GitHub.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with adaptability.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work remotely with distributed teams.

Additional skills that are a plus include experience with programming languages (Scala, Rust, Go, Angular, React, Kotlin), database management (PostgreSQL), analytics engines (ElasticSearch), and observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus).
