Job summary

Modo Energy is hiring backend Python engineers to join one of our product teams (Terminal, Data, Ko, or Modelling) and own production systems from day one.

You'll design, build, and maintain APIs and data pipelines, own AWS infrastructure with Terraform, and collaborate with energy analysts and data scientists to deliver reliable, scalable software for energy markets.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional Python experience with end-to-end ownership.
• Hands-on AWS and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) experience.
• Proficiency with Django, FastAPI, or similar frameworks.
• Experience with data pipelines and PostgreSQL for scalable data services.
• Expert-level use of AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot).
• Fast learner who can design systems and ships with good judgement.
• Comfortable in a small, fast-moving team with autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs powering a live product.
• Design and operate data pipelines ingesting energy market data.
• Own AWS infrastructure and deployment end-to-end using Terraform.
• Build monitoring and observability to catch issues early.
• Balance feature shipping with platform health and reliability.
• Design internal tools like CLIs and APIs to improve team speed.
• Collaborate with domain experts to ensure accuracy and usefulness.
• Support AI Analyst with retrieval pipelines and tool-calling.
