Job summary

Legal News Wales is hiring a qualified solicitor to join a specialist team handling public inquiries, investigations and complex regulatory matters in Cardiff. You will contribute to high-profile public sector work and support expert colleagues on sensitive, evidential issues.

The ideal candidate has 1+ year PQE and a solid background in public inquiries, with strong analytical and communication skills. Travel to client premises may be required as part of the role.

Responsibilities

• Support statutory and non-statutory public inquiries in advisory and legal roles.
• Advise and represent individuals and organisations in inquiries and investigations.
• Assist with internal investigations and confidential reviews.
• Liaise with witnesses and stakeholders; conduct interviews and draft statements.
• Review and analyse documentary evidence using specialist document tools.
• Support large disclosure projects and document reviews.
• Identify and redact confidential or privileged information.
• Manage large volumes of evidence; produce clear reports on findings.
• Assist with hearing preparation and attend hearings when required.
• Support communications and media-related matters; assess reputational risks.
• Advise on inquiry procedures, disclosure obligations, and governance issues.
