We are recruiting a Public Health Intelligence Advisor to join the Public Health Sciences Service in Public Health Scotland.
Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 as a national health board, employing around 1200 people, and with an annual budget of around £101 million. Public Health Scotland wants to see a Scotland where everybody thrives, a Scotland where life expectancy improves and the difference in life expectancy between our poorest and wealthiest areas gets smaller.
The Public Health Science Service is made up of approximately 56 staff, committed to improving population health and reducing health inequalities. We focus on the fundamental causes and primary prevention, employing three main approaches: data and intelligence; evaluation; and evidence synthesis.
This post sits in the data and intelligence function of the Public Health Science Service. We use information from a range of sources to better understand the health of the Scottish population, the factors that affect it and contribute to evaluation, monitoring and policy reviewing activity.
These posts are generic and we are required to move between topic areas as the public health landscape changes. However, the immediate focus of this post will be an exciting programme of work focused on the early years and young people. Using sound public health intelligence skills this post will contribute to the development and improvement of data and intelligence on the health and wellbeing of children and young people. However, previous experience in this topic area is not essential.
You will bring strong technical public health intelligence skills and sound knowledge of the social determinants of health. You will be confident in working with complex data and evidence.
You will have well-developed communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to a range of audiences, including non-specialists. Strong interpersonal and partnership working skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively and influence across organisations.
If you choose to use artificial intelligence (AI) or other tools to assist in writing your application, it's essential to personalise this information, particularly your supporting information section.
