Job description

Background

On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow.

As part of this transformation, NSS and NES have joined to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland). This new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and ensuring the long-term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.

About the Organisation

PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future.

We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.

The Post

This is an exciting opportunity for a Data Management Officer to join ARHAI (Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection) Scotland, within PSD Scotland. ARHAI Scotland leads and supports efforts to prevent healthcare associated infection (HAI) by means of guidance development, surveillance, operational support and training, covering areas such as surgical site infection and other HAI surveillance, decontamination, microbiological surveillance, research and infection prevention and control.

The Candidate

The post holder will play an important role in a range of activities to support the national surveillance of healthcare associated infection or antimicrobial resistance data in Scotland. The role will predominantly involve working with and managing data delivered through the Electronic Communication of Surveillance in Scotland (ECOSS) system, but will also include collecting, managing and reporting surveillance data from other routine and non-routine sources and liaising with key stakeholders including Scottish Reference Laboratories, policymakers, NHS Boards, clinicians and other experts. The development and management of data systems is essential to ensure ARHAI Scotland can monitor and report on key areas such as bacteraemia, infections in ICU settings, surgical site infections, hospital incidents, and outbreaks.

You will have an enthusiastic approach and excellent organisation skills; a primary degree in a scientific/clinical subject or equivalent experience in a role involving data management; training or experience in using databases, statistical and programming software such as R, SPSS and SQL; and good communication skills. You must be able to show initiative and prioritise work, manage your own workload and maintain high standards, with excellent attention to detail. You will be experienced in the use of Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. Experience in data visualisation and/or analytics is essential. You will have a proven track record as a team player and be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

It is vital that you demonstrate the PSD Scotland values of working with respect and care, openness and integrity, to focus on our customers, demonstrate commitment to each other and excel and improve. Knowledge of the NHS and an interest in public health would be advantageous.

This is a national post, hosted by ARHAI Scotland.
