Job summary

West Sussex County Council is seeking a Public Health Analyst to monitor smoking cessation performance, gather and analyse data across West Sussex, and lead on data collection, extraction, analysis and reporting.

You will work in a fast-paced Public Health Directorate, delivering high-quality insights to shape services and inform decisions, with opportunities for remote work and a requirement to be based at County Hall, Chichester.

Qualifications

• Degree, or equivalent qualification or experience in researching, analysing and evaluating arguments and information.
• Advanced theoretical or organisational knowledge of systems, procedures and policies related to research and data management techniques.
• Experience in undertaking high level research contributing to strategic plans and policies.
• Experience providing professional advice to senior staff and partner organisations affecting the business.
• Experience persuading others to implement research conclusions and proposals.
• Experience dealing with people and establishing credibility at all levels of the organisation.

Responsibilities

• Analyze local stop smoking service data to assess reach, impact and effectiveness, and present reports with recommendations for improvement.
• Monitor and report service performance against targets and KPIs.
• Monitor and report local smoking cessation and grant spend against funding allocation, flagging under- or over-spend risks.
• Merge data from local stop smoking services into the national Stop Smoking Services Quarterly Return.
• Design methodologies and research, analyse varied information and propose long-term strategies and solutions.
• Collaborate with WSCC and NHS organisations to inform decision making.
• Set out analytical plans with milestones, deliverables and data governance requirements.
• Plan and meet targets, resolve issues, and escalate serious problems to the line manager.
