Derby City Council is offering an exciting Public Health Practitioner Apprentice (Level 6) combining study with day-to-day work in the Public Health team, leading to a degree qualification (Public Health BSc) and a career in public health.

Successful candidates start in January 2027, working across the Public Health and Neighbourhoods teams, gaining experience in prevention, health protection and health improvement while studying at Coventry University.

Qualificações

• GCSE Maths and English (4 or above or functional skills) and successful study at level 3 (A– Level, BTEC qualifications) or at least 2 years of working within a public health relate role
• Commitment to studying and completing a BSc Public Health at Coventry University
• Ability to think analytically and engage with communities

• Work with Neighbourhood Managers/Officers, Local Area Coordinators and Public Health Knowledge and Intelligence team

Contract Type: Temporary / Fixed Term for 3 years

Derby City Council are offering an exciting apprenticeship combining study alongside day-to-day working within the Public Health team as a Public Health Practitioner Apprentice (Level 6). The apprenticeship will lead to a degree qualification (Public Health BSc) as well as providing an opportunity for the candidate to pursue a career in Public Health.

Please note the successful candidate must be able to start employment in early January 2027 due to course start dates.

What you’ll be doing

During the apprenticeship, you will work in the Public Health team and the Neighbourhoods team. You will gain working experience of a range of Public Health functions, such as prevention of ill health, health protection and health improvement, whilst also working with:

• Neighbourhood Managers and Neighbourhood Officers
• Local Area Coordinators
• Public Health Knowledge and Intelligence team supporting neighbourhood profiles.

You will support the planning, delivery, monitoring, evaluation, communication and engagement approaches to public health services, projects and programmes. Good communication, understanding data and the ability to engage with communities will be important skills to help achieve this. Across the three years in the Public Health team, the candidate will be supported to meet the learning objectives required for the apprenticeship.

In addition, the successful candidate is responsible for undertaking and completing a BSc Public Health at Coventry University. At least one working day each week will be spent studying / attending university courses.

• Self-motivate, work independently and prioritise own workload.

The successful candidate does not need existing experience of working in public health, or in local authorities. However, they should be able to demonstrate how their existing knowledge and experience can be applied to the role.
