Job Description

The Public Affairs Manager will represent Heathrow externally and understand core business priorities, key policy requests, and the business model and operations of the UK’s busiest airport.

Given Heathrow's role as the UK's hub airport and global gateway, this position requires someone who can work in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment, prioritise tasks effectively, protect and enhance Heathrow’s reputation, build strong relationships, and communicate complex issues with a wide range of stakeholders both internally and externally.

Your role will involve
  • Supporting the activation of proactive and reactive communication strategies to protect and enhance the reputation of the business.
  • Organising and attending meetings, events, and visits of the airport to strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, developing a clear understanding of the role Heathrow plays in the national economy, and inform on key business priorities.
  • Scanning the political horizon for issues relevant to Heathrow and proactively developing strategies to address them.
  • Working closely with Heathrow’s policy team to support on a range of issues and the development of the business’ policy priorities, as well as supporting with other campaign activity.
  • Being a part of an on-call team responding to incidents at the airport to ensure key stakeholders are kept informed throughout.
These Skills Are Essential
  • Understanding of the parliamentary process and someone who can engage with politicians from across the political spectrum. They will have existing political relationships of their own and will confidently engage with external stakeholders to maintain and build support for Heathrow’s priorities.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Ability to understand complex information and present it in a way which is easy for the public to understand so excellent presentation skills.
  • High level of personal resilience and a can-do attitude, be able to handle highly pressurised and fast-paced situations, meet deadlines, and have the capacity to manage high workloads with effective prioritisation.
  • Be credible and authoritative – seen as a source of expertise, and a go-to resource for communications advice across Heathrow.

Working Location

Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You’ll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
