Job summary

Nelson and Colne College in Nelson, England is seeking a Part-time Hourly Paid Lecturer - Digital to inspire and deliver high-quality IT teaching across Digital courses. You will design content, assessments and learning materials, and work with staff to keep the curriculum current with industry trends.

You will deliver hands-on, practical sessions, engage learners of varying abilities, and collaborate with local employers to enhance the curriculum.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field required or strong equivalent
  • Experience teaching IT/CS to diverse levels is essential
  • PGCE or willingness to work towards one is required

Salary: £27.89 per hour

Hours: Varied - maximum of 24 per week

Working Weeks: 38 per year

The Exciting Role

A new and exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Part-time Hourly Paid Lecturer - Digital to join a dynamic and innovative educational institution. As a Lecturer in Digital, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning to students across a range of digital-related courses. You will work closely with other members of the academic team to design and develop course content, assessments, and learning materials that engage and challenge students.

In this role, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the college s Digital curriculum, helping to ensure that it remains up-to-date and relevant to the needs of the industry. You will work closely with local employers and other stakeholders to identify emerging trends and technologies, and to ensure that your teaching reflects these developments.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a degree in Computer Science or a related field, as well as a recognised teaching qualification. You will have experience of teaching IT and Computer Science to students of all levels and will be able to demonstrate a passion for your subject and a commitment to student success. You will be a proactive and enthusiastic team player, with excellent communication and organisational skills.

We are seeking a practitioner with expertise in software development, particularly in the teaching of programming languages such as Python, C++, and JavaScript. The ideal candidate will also possess experience in teaching Cyber Security and Networking. This role requires a deep understanding of both theoretical concepts and practical applications, with the ability to communicate complex topics clearly and effectively. Experience in delivering hands-on, engaging lessons and adapting to diverse learning styles is highly desirable. Familiarity with the latest industry standards and trends will be an advantage. What You Will Be Doing:
  • Teaching on a variety of L3 programs including Digital T levels and BTEC
  • Engaging with local schools as part of the recruitment strategy
  • Deliver enrichment and enhancement activities
  • Work with key employers to co-design the curriculum
  • Maintain high quality records related to student assessment, coursework and progress

  • Degree in a relevant subject area or appropriate professional qualification
  • Recent industry experience is desirable
  • PGCE qualification or the willingness to work towards one
  • Knowledge of and proven ability to deliver the curriculum successfully
  • Display initiative, be positive and enthusiastic
  • Demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity, customer service and quality assurance
  • Possess excellent communication skills
