Job summary

Protocol Education Ltd in the North East is recruiting Psychology Graduates to support SEN schools across Gateshead and Newcastle from September 2026. As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll support pupils with a range of needs, helping them manage challenges and engage with lessons.

You’ll gain hands-on experience, working directly with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals in a multi-disciplinary environment, with access to CPD and local placements across Gateshead.

Qualifications

• Psychology degree or related qualification required.
• Interest in SEND and child development.
• Patient and compassionate approach.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Positive attitude.
• Willingness to learn.
• Previous child-related experience is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to pupils with SEND.
• Help pupils manage their emotions and behavior.
• Deliver targeted interventions and support during lessons.
• Encourage pupil participation and engagement in class.

The Opportunity

As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll support children with a range of additional needs, helping them manage the challenges of school and develop the skills they need to succeed.

Gateshead | Full-time | Monday-Friday | September 2026 | £92.63-£98 per day

You'll Support Pupils With

• Autism


• ADHD


• SEMH needs


• Communication difficulties


• Learning difficulties


• Emotional regulation needs

Your role could include providing 1:1 support, helping pupils manage their emotions, delivering interventions or encouraging children to participate in lessons.

What Makes This Different?

You won’t simply be observing from the sidelines.

You’ll be hands-on, working directly with pupils and gaining a genuine understanding of how SEND can affect behaviour, learning and emotional wellbeing.

You’ll also work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals, giving you a valuable insight into working within a multidisciplinary education environment.
