Job description

Psychology Graduate Role - 1-1 Teaching Assistant Full-time | From £93 per day | Start: ASAP

Are you a psychology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience working with young people? If you’re considering a future career in educational psychology, clinical psychology, or mental health, this could be the perfect next step.

Axcis Education is working in partnership with a number of mainstream secondary schools and colleges in the Birmingham area, and we’re looking for full-time Graduate Learning Support Assistants to start ASAP.

In this role, you’ll be providing 1:1 support to students aged 15–18.

Many of the young people you’ll work with have additional needs such as autism, ADHD, or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

You’ll play a key role in helping them stay engaged in lessons, develop coping strategies, and build confidence in a structured school environment.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to apply your knowledge of psychology in a real-world setting.

You’ll gain valuable insight into behaviour, learning, and adolescent development while making a meaningful difference in a young person’s daily life.

You don’t need previous school experience. If you have any voluntary or professional experience supporting individuals with additional needs and, a genuine interest in mental health and behaviour then we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for someone who is empathetic, patient, and emotionally intelligent, with a strong interest in supporting young people through challenges. Reliability, resilience, and a proactive attitude are key.

Why this is a great first step in your psychology career:
  • Apply your academic knowledge in a practical setting
  • Ideal experience for careers in educational or clinical psychology, counselling, or youth work
  • Work Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm – no unsociable hours
  • Get paid weekly – £93 per day
  • Free access to a wide range of training through the Axcis Academy
  • Gain real, hands-on experience supporting adolescents with additional needs

These roles start ASAP and run full-time during term time, with the opportunity to become permanent after an initial settling-in period.

If you’re a psychology graduate ready to build meaningful experience and make a genuine difference in young people’s lives, we’d love to hear from you.

If you are not interested in this role but know someone else who might be, don't forget that we offer £50 in shopping vouchers if you refer a friend to us and we place them in the job.

This is a temporary position, unless stated otherwise.

Axcis is an equal opportunities employer and as such we do not discriminate based on age, gender, disability, race or any other equal opportunities criteria.

The company is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As such, you will be required to provide an up to date DBS, or be prepared to allow Axcis to process one on your behalf, in addition to other mandatory compliance checks in line with the DfE guidelines (for details please see our website).

If the position you are applying for involves working with children or vulnerable adults, this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974.

Axcis Education is an employment agency offering temporary supply work for daily, short-term and long-term assignments in addition to permanent positions.

You must be suitably qualified for the position advertised and be prepared to attend a face to face interview with Axcis to demonstrate your suitability for this role.

Salary / Pay Rate will be dependent on your skills and experience.
